Unlocking G7 guardsmen costs 972 billion Valor Points - a wall most players stare at for months. The Ragnarok upgrade trick in Total Battle shortcuts it: unlock G6 in the middle of a Ragnarok, and the event keeps scoring you as a G5. You farm Fenrir at G5 rates, bank 95 million points, and the following Ragnarok's refreshed shop sells you enough Valor Points to unlock G7 outright.

How does the Ragnarok upgrade trick work in Total Battle?

When you upgrade your guardsman tier during a Ragnarok, the event keeps treating you as your old tier for the rest of that event. E.g. upgrading from G5 to G6. You earn points as a G5 player but hitting your personal goals with G6 troops. This will allow you to bank a lot of points in the Fenrir shop, that you can use at the next Ragnarok when the shop upgrades to your new tier G6. When the shop upgrades you've saved a lot of points you can use on Valor Points giving you a boost to G7.

The Fenrir shop only refreshes to your new tier at the next Ragnarok. That is the whole trick: bank cheap points in Ragnarok #1, then spend them on the Valor Point bundles - in the next Ragnarok event #2.

What do you need ready before Ragnarok #1?

1. Save VP: Research up until your G6 and save enough Valor Points (4x9B) to unlock your G6. Each guardman 6 cost 9B to research (full tier table below).
2. Level requirements: Hero level 100, Academy level 30, 51k blueprints (Costs 510k gold) The buildings guide covers what the academy does if yours is lagging.
3. Gold Pass holders: do not collect your mercenaries before you unlocked G6. Wait until they turn green after the G6 upgrade, then collect.

What do you do at Ragnarok #0?

Only one thing: do not buy the "Strength against Fenrir squads" item - saving it is what lets you hold two purchases of the Fenrir bonus at once. Timing the shop around the event start lets you hold two buffs at once - and you want them active during Ragnarok #1, where you farm your points:

1. At Ragnarok #0 (the event before your upgrade run), do not buy the "Strength against Fenrir squads" item. Leave it in the shop.
2. Just before Ragnarok #1 starts, open the shop and buy it - the previous event's shop is still available through the tournament menu, you just have to scroll.
3. The moment Ragnarok #1 starts, buy it again - this is the new event's buff.
4. You now hold both purchases while you farm Fenrir toward your 95 million points.

Whether the second purchase actually raises the percentage is not confirmed. In one observation from December 2024 the second buy appeared to extend the buff's duration rather than add to its strength - and since the event and the buff both last two days, a longer duration is worth nothing. The general rule in Total Battle is that two bonuses of the same kind do not add up. So after the second buy, open your bonuses screen and read the Fenrir percentage: if it has not risen, skip the second purchase next time and spend the coins on dragon coins instead. What do you do during Ragnarok #1?

The order matters - hit both bosses and claim rewards before you upgrade, then reload and farm VP on Fenrir.

1. Hit Fenrir (the dog) and Jörmungandr (the snake).
2. Claim your personal tournament rewards
3. Purchase 1 item from each shop. In the Jörmungandr shop get: "Strength against Fenrir squads" (this is the second buy of the stack - see the Ragnarok #0 section above) and from the Fenrir shop: "Dragon coins". You are most likely going to need them
4. Unlock G6 - Complete the research and spend the VP.
5. Reload the game.
6. Collect your mercenaries from the Triumphal - they should show green now.
7. Focus on Fenrir for the rest of the event. Use stacking to get the most out of your ressources.
8. Save your coins and bank at least 95 million Fenrir points - that is the limit of the next shop you can purchase Valor Point for. You want to wait until the next Ragnarok to spend all your coins when the shop upgrades to your G6 tier. The Valor Points you can purchase is increased.

How do you unlock G7 in Ragnarok #2?

At the next Ragnarok #2 after your upgrade, the Fenrir shop rewards refresh to your new tier (G6). Buy all the Valor Point rewards you can with the points you banked and go research towards G7.

How much VP does each guardsman tier cost?

What to do first

Check your G6 research right now: get it fully prepared, and leave the final unlock unclicked until the event. Start banking toward 66B VP plus 9B per guardsman, prepare the academy requirements, and then wait for the next Ragnarok. The one thing to remember: never finish a tier unlock outside a Ragnarok - the same grind, timed into the event, pays for your next tier too.
